Were your plans for a home remodel dashed by covid-19? With so many aspects of our lives impacted by the pandemic, it’s disappointing to put renovation plans on hold, to say the least.
But that doesn’t have to be the case. In fact, it is possible to complete a home renovation safely during Covid by following the simple safety measures outlined below.
All contractors or workers in your home should wash their hands for at least 20 seconds regularly. So it’s important to ensure there is easy access to running water and antibacterial soap throughout the project. Although hand sanitizer is a good option when water isn’t available, it cannot replace regular hand washing.
All individuals involved in the home remodel should also wear a face mask at all times in accordance with Department of Health guidelines. Depending on the job, these can be ventilated, cloth, or surgical as required and should be accompanied by gloves and eye protection where necessary.
Where possible, social distancing should be adhered to. You should remain at least two meters away from anyone working in your home at all times, and contractors should also attempt to remain socially distant from each other where possible.
If a specific room in your home is undergoing renovation, consider putting up a temporary plastic wall to keep that room completely separate from the rest of the house. For this to work, the room will need separate access, but if this is available, it’s a good way to keep cross-contamination to a minimum.
If it’s possible to talk to your contractor over Zoom or Skype, you should do that. Keeping in-person meetings to a minimum will help reduce your exposure to other individuals.
Keep in constant communication with all workers in your home about possible covid-19 symptoms. You should also tell your contractor if anyone in your household shows symptoms to ensure everyone you’ve come into contact with can get tested.
Covid-19 has massively impacted almost every aspect of our lives. But it doesn’t have to disrupt your remodel plans. By following the appropriate health and safety guidelines, it’s possible to complete a remodel safely without compromising on standards. Questions? Contact Pathway Design & Construction today.
