From Sorrowfully Soggy to Sumptuously Stunning
After living in their beautifully remodeled Seattle home for seven years, these homeowners experienced a devastating flood caused by a burst supply line to the second-floor laundry sink. Water flowed undetected for hours, saturating flooring and walls on both the first and second levels, and even reaching the garage and basement. The damage was extensive—requiring full replacement of electrical systems, flooring, tile, and cabinetry in the kitchen and all three bathrooms. One of the greatest challenges during restoration was removing the subfloor, which had been glued to the TJI floor joists.
Faced with the need to rebuild, the homeowners saw an opportunity to reimagine the space to reflect their exacting tastes. We collaborated closely with them and a designer we introduced, ensuring the renovation met their vision for both aesthetics and functionality. Sustainability was a priority throughout the project. The clients selected German cabinetry that surpasses American environmental standards, and all wood flooring is FSC-certified.
The kitchen now features a waterfall-edge island, integrated dishwasher, and column-style refrigerator and freezer for a sleek, modern look. A chef-grade 48” induction and gas range, custom tilework, and layered lighting under cabinets and toe kicks add luxurious touches.
By supplementing the insurance claim budget, the clients were able to transform the home into a true reflection of their style and values. The result is a stunning, high-quality space that they are proud to call home—despite the 18-month displacement required to achieve it.
