Seattle Connected Living
This project represents the next phase of a long-term interior transformation for a returning client. Originally planned as a two‑phase renovation, first the kitchen, then the remainder of the home, the clients ultimately chose to expand their budget and complete the entire remodel at once to minimize disruption. The result is a unified, modern living environment tailored to their lifestyle and the way they move between spaces.
The remodel included a full renovation of the kitchen and primary bathroom, along with thoughtful updates throughout the home. The goal was to create a spa‑like retreat in the bathroom, a highly functional and visually elevated kitchen, and a bedroom that serves as a true sanctuary. Natural materials, increased daylight, and improved sightlines were intentionally incorporated to support biophilic design principles and create a calming, wellness‑oriented atmosphere.
In the kitchen, the layout remained the same, but the transformation significantly improved both usability and aesthetic appeal. A vertical tile backsplash paired with vertical‑grain cabinetry creates visual rhythm, while a custom Dekton hood matched to the countertops adds a sculptural focal point. Strengthening the connection to the backyard was also a priority. Two mismatched windows were replaced with one larger opening that floods the room with natural light and reinforces the biophilic need for a visual link to outdoor spaces.
Several aspects of the project required creative problem‑solving. The living room fireplace had no formal layout drawings, so the mason and designer collaborated closely, laying out each stone on the floor to achieve a balanced, organic composition. The enlarged kitchen window introduced structural challenges due to new point loads and an existing basement remodel below. Because a window sat directly beneath the new opening, the header needed upgrading. Instead of installing it in the basement—where it would disrupt finished spaces—we engineered a solution that placed the header on the kitchen’s sill plate, meeting structural requirements while minimizing impact.
The completed remodel delivered a cohesive, elevated home that feels both modern and restorative. Biophilic elements—natural materials, increased daylight, and improved outdoor connections—enhance wellbeing throughout the space. Standout features include a luxurious steam shower, Dekton surfaces, radiant ceiling panels, integrated blind‑ready sliding doors, custom lighting, a richly toned office, and a bedroom intentionally crafted as a quiet sanctuary for deep rest and rejuvenation. Despite multiple challenges, the team’s adaptability produced a seamless, personalized home that supports both function and wellness.
