Stylish Seattle Basement Remodel Featuring Kitchen and Office Upgrade
The homeowners of this classic 1942 home were looking to add more square footage to their small Seattle bungalow. With no room to expand on the main level, we decided to transform the previously unfriendly basement into a bright inviting workspace that they could use for years to come.
Key features in this space included a polished concrete floor and exposed beams in the ceiling which both helped keep us in budget and gave the space an overall industrial feel. C was used on the wall behind the door to allow it to fully swing open while adding aesthetic appeal and insulation (R-value). We also replaced the existing solid door with a full glass door to bring in more light, which became a key feature of the space.
Challenges:
The clients had a tight budget that they needed to adhere to. This proposed a challenge for us when unexpected issues arose like water in the basement, which had never been seen in the space before.
Solutions:
We were quickly able to resolve the water in the basement by modifying the outside downspouts. Keeping the project within the homeowners budget was extremely challenging. A few ways we were able to keep the costs lower, were polishing the existing concrete floor and opting not to install drywall on the ceiling. Instead, we cleaned up the joists, which added head height and created an artistic feature that the homeowners loved. Giving the space an industrial feel while also being able to keep the overall project costs down so they fit within the homeowner’s budget.
